Is there any way to add some diagnostics to the grid so I could check if anything is initialized incorrectly or out of state, etc... I guess there might be a small thing somewhere that also causes me to experience these invalidation problems...

Ok, this definitely is a bug as I was just able to reproduce this in a simple sample application. I sent you an email with sample application attached. Let me know if you got it.
